From a small thatched cottage in Somerset to a small production unit in Tiptree, Thursday Cottage still stir the fresh finest ingredients by hand, in open pans and hand fill all their jams and marmalades (you get more whole fruit hand pouring).

Not as expected

I was really looking forward to try the ‘chunky’ marmalade as it says on the label. There were no chunks ! The price that I paid doesn’t justify something that doesn’t exist (chunks) . It costs four times more than a marmalade that you buy from a supermarket.

A bit sweeter than the Tiptree Tawny Cut that I normally have. I would like it to be more seville orange based. 50% Oranges / 50% sugar

Our History

The ‘Tiptree’ story begins around the early 1700s with Trewlands, the farm that was later to become the main site for jam-making in the Essex village of Tiptree. Today, there are some 11,000 inhabitants in what may well be the largest village in the country.

Our farm is LEAF Marque accredited (Linking Environment And Farming), recognising that we work sympathetically with our environment and encourage links with our local community. Fruit crops include strawberries, raspberries, mulberries, Morello cherries, rhubarb, damson, Victoria plum, greengage, quince, and the curious medlar.
